  1. I thought to gift myself a visit to Udaipur on my birthday last year but due to some personal reasons it didnt work out and I ended up being in Agra. This year too due to COVID, I couldnt get to do it. Well, let’s see if this works the next year.

  2. Hi Yukti! Is tipping common in Udaipur? Some of my Indian friends said not to give more than a dollar or give at least 10% of the bill. To be honest, I am quite uncomfortable giving tips because the last time I did it, lots of people followed me on the streets asking for money. What is the best percentage (and fair, of course) for tipping in Udaipur? Thank you for your help!

    1. It is not necessary or mandatory in India, but you can tip whenever you like someone’s service. And if you dont want to catch unwanted attention, then you can tip the person, personally by giving in envelope or covering it. And percentage too depends on how much you like the service, as there is no specific rule.

  3. That sunset cruise on Lake Pichola sounds like a dream! The city museum sound and light show also sounds like fun. It’s time I planned a trip to Udaipur! 🙂

  4. I must say you have amazing writing style which will take you so far in your future. Can you write something about hostels in India for backpackers it will be great to see something like this.

  5. Udaipur is one of my favourite places in India. It’s small enough you can easily explore on foot yet it’s packed with palaces, temples and narrow winding lanes with lots to discover. Of course, the lakes add to its beauty.

  6. I have just come back from Udaipur and I loved my experience. It has a very different pace to it unlike other cities of Rajasthan. I loved Badi lake and Ambrai Ghat a lot. Though I couldn’t do ropeway to Karni Mata temple. May be next time. Loved the post 🙂

  7. Looking forward to my trip to this amazing city in the next few weeks. Very helpful and timely read post which gives me some tips on what to do. Unfortunately I’m traveling in the peak season so paying a premium. The architecture is one of the most fascinating and colourful aspect and one I’m looking to capture. A very informative post and thanks. Truely the Venice of the east.

  8. I have traveled in Rajasthan extensively but somehow, never got to Udaipur. I think next time, I will make a trip only to be in this beautiful city and the itinerary here seems just perfect. Did not know that there is cruise on Lake Pichola which one could take. That’s awesome. Bagore ki Haveli sounds fascinating and so historic and of course, City Palace Museum is a must. Learning about Sajjan Garh palace for the first time and would love to see it. Saving this guide on Udaipur for our future trip!

    1. Thanks Navita, And I have only traveled to Udaipur in Rajasthan and still looking for other places there. Yes cruise on Lake Pichola is lovely thing to do here.

  9. Agree with this itinerary you shared Yukti. A single day is not enough for Udaipur and one can visit a few places only which you already mentioned. I guess one can visit these on Day one and keep the Day two to explore city and street food. at least, I did that (:

  10. I had been to Udaipur a long time ago. But I did not do half of the things on the post here. I would dearly love to go back and check out the intricate architecture on the city palace and of course the serene lake Pichola. The small city has so much to offer for repeat travelers like me:) Will surely come back. Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. Udaipur is both beautiful and interesting. The Karni Mata temple sounds like the perfect spot for views of the city and lake . There are so few places that have any kind of cable car in operation. Fun itinerary! Have fun!

  12. Wow, Udaipur and Lake Pichola is just stunning! I l’ve not yet been to India, but I’d love to see this city, and all these incredible temples. I live half the year in Veneto, where Venice is the capital, so it’s nice to see another reference to a water-based city! I can definitely see why Udaipur is a must-see, I just hope I can visit soon!

  13. What an awesome adventure, I really enjoyed reading this, and the pictures and great. Thank for sharing!
