Fujairah is an emirate on the east coast of United Arab Emirates(UAE) about 167 km from Dubai, lying down the Gulf of Oman.  This emirate is famous for the rocky Hajar Mountains and crystal, clear, clean beaches of UAE. Let’s plan a weekend getaway or trip to Fujairah from Dubai.

Weekend Getaway / Trip to Fujairah from Dubai

NEAREST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – Fujairah Airport in the city and Dubai International Airpot.

BY ROAD – Driving to Fujairah from Dubai takes around 2 hours 42 minutes. This drive is very picturesque due to the mountainous route and beautiful views of Hajar mountains.

The roads of UAE are very smooth, safe and well maintained.  There are some villages in between where there are Friday markets on the roadside for stopovers. You can buy fresh fruits directly from the farms, palm trees handicrafts, and Persian carpets from local people/vendors.

There are many luxurious beach resorts along the coastline of Fujairah. We chose Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort for our stay.

Always check the deals on Groupon/Entertainer and other travel sites for best plans and rates. We took the swimming pool facing room and there are some mountain facing rooms also. Fujairah is having rocky mountains on one side and beach on the other side.

Mountain facing rooms have the view of rocky mountains and a highway:-

There are lots of activities in the hotel like children’s club, Tennis court, Water sports, Beach Fun, Lavish swimming pool with a bar inside, Musical beachside bar named as ‘Gonu Bar’ (lively in afternoons and romantic at night).  This hotel has a total of 218 rooms with

  • Children’s Pool
  • Outdoor Pools
  • Spa Facilities
  • Outdoor Tennis Courts
  • Jacuzzi
  • Sauna and Steam Room
  • Squash Court
  • Crazy Golf (Miniature Golf)
  • Fitness Center
  • Scuba Diving
  • Water Sports
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis Lessons
  • Aerobic Classes

  • Billiards

There are many water sports which can be purchased during the stay. We did this

LANGUAGE – Arabic, and English

Dining Facilities in the resort – Continental. I like Sapore for Italian food. Baywatch poolside bar is good for drinks. Gonu Bar and Grill is very lively with the sounds of waves.

Breakfast Layout is very sumptuous and with lots of variety and has a decent seating arrangement.

Going for huge Breakfast arrangement

There are also lots of trekking and hiking points nearby in the mountains with lots of professional trekkers coming over. Mountain bikes and camping is quite popular in local areas.  Near this resort, you can go to see old Fujairah fort, mosque and local village life of UAE. This resort is away from the hustle and bustle of city life between mountains and seas. It is a complete relaxation for family, couples, solo travelers, parties and get-togethers and business meets.  So for relaxed and peaceful staycation Fujairah is perfect for weekend getaway.

  1. My parents live in Dubai, and I visit the UAE at least a couple of times in an year. I never realised that Fujairah had such interesting options though. Next time perhaps!

  2. Meridien <33 It looks a bit cloudy but sounds like a great family spot. I'm obsessed with vintage cars, especially American ones. When I was in LA this Summer, I stopped at every car xD.

  3. I’ll gonna try that water sports and trekking in that place someday, your photos looks great! Thanks for sharing, i’ll gonna include it in my bucket list 😊

  4. The vintage car is beautiful, when I have a chance I always go the vintage car gatherings to take tons of pictures of them 😀
Fujairah looks nice, I am not that familiar with the Emirates so only Dubai pops into my mind when Emirates are mentioned. It is nice to get a peek to other places.

  5. The hotel you stayed in looks great for families with lots going on. I would definitely look that hotel up if I ever take my kids there like I hope to. I love the look of the mountains, Ive never seen anything quite like it

  6. A completely unknown place to me! I like the look of the Hajar mountains, it seems very serene. Your hotel looks wonderful, and a little luxurious too! That classic car is so random!

  7. That hotel you stayed in looks spectacular! The architecture is so unique and awe-inspiring. The pool is also incredible and I love that there are plenty of facilities to unwind in!

  8. This looks like an awesome place to relax! And bonus that its a place off the beaten path, at least for Americans. I wouldn’t have thought to look to vacation in a place like this!

  9. I love getaways like this. Not too far, approachable and when the drive is as pretty as this what else can you ask for. Thanks for sharing this new place! <3

  10. I do love a trip to Fujeirah, always reminds me of long weekends with my family as a child. I have still yet to visitAl Aqah but it looks just as good as I had heard it was when it first opened. I’ll have to plan a staycation.

  11. Fujairah looks perfect for a quick weekend escape if you’re in Emirates. Driving on those roads must be so amazing with such a splendid view!

  12. The road trip from Dubai to Fujiarah looks fascinating and picturesque! Must be quite interesting to be in the midst of mountains and sea on either sides. Must be a perfect weekend getaway for people working in Dubai.

  13. The only thing I knew about this region was Dubai, but you have opened my eyes. Now I know that the UAE is beautiful everywhere. I can’t wait until I can visit that area

  14. Wow! They have quite a lot of activities in Le Meridien. I stay in the chain quite often and it is a good hotel for business purposes. never tried for leisure trip.

  15. I have never heard of the Emirate, Fujairah. The views of the drive from Dubai to Fujairah look incredible, worth driving even if it’s just to drive and come back! Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort looks like the perfect family resort, I’d love to stay here with my daughter and enjoy all the activities for a few days.

  16. The roads look perfect. Fujairah is definitely an accessible place if you live in UAE. I like that this resort has an amazing mountain views and a beautiful pool. There is also a good variety of activities that everyone can enjoy.

  17. Fujairah looks beautiful, the hotel, the beach the mountains. What a nice get away. I would love to travel here one day to check it out myself. Thank you so much for sharing!

  18. Mountains and beaches? Count me in! Looks like a wonderful place to have a little luxurious holiday at.

  19. I know nothing about the Emirates except Dubai so I really enjoyed reading your post. The resort in Fujairah looks really nice, especially with that big swimming pool. The view towards the sea is definitely much better than the one towards the mountains and the highway. I like the sound of the villages having markets on the side of the road on Fridays.

  20. I would also choose the pool view room. It makes me feel like more of a holiday if I can be near the pool! The activities available at this hotel make it seem like a great place to get away from it all.

  21. Looks like a fun place to relax and explore a not-as-well-known part of UAE. To be honest, I often forget that there are beaches in this part of the world, so your post is a pleasant reminder of that. I love that there are many opportunities to get out into the city and discover more of the history and local customs, and not just the resort life!

  22. As someone who loves camping and hiking, Fujairah would be a great escape for me. I would love to experience the real rural UAE and enjoy the beautiful landscape. The hotel certainly looks lovely and of a very high standard and would be fun to stay at as well.

  23. Looks like the perfect getaway. It must be hard to choose between pool view and mountain view– both are so lovely. I absolutely love water sports, so this would be a great hotel for me.
