AMBIANCE / DÉCOR of Gabbar’s Grill Restaurant – Explore restaurants in Discovery Gardens, Dubai

As I have said this restaurant is based on Sholay movie so all ambiance or décor is inspired by this movie. You will find Gabbar’s photo on each of its walls with his famous dialogues written.  One of his famous dialogue – “Jo day gaya who mar gaya” which translates to – “Those who live in fear are considered as dead” is the highlight of this restaurant. You will also see kites and lanterns hanging from the ceiling to create the Indian countryside atmosphere.  As this movie is based on a rural lifestyle, so the interiors of this place are based on village life of India.  Embroidered seat covers, tables with hand painted bottles & traditional woven cots are some peculiarities and innovative decorations of this place.  Rich yellow colored walls with dim lights give the feeling of mud painted homes which you commonly find in Indian villages.

  1. I have never been to Dubai (YET!) but when I do visit, I know exactly where to go! I am also a slight Bollywood fan so I think this would suit me nicely. I would also love to sample quite a few dishes from Gabbar’s Grill as there seems to be a nice variety of dishes to try. I have actually tried Punjabi food before (since I have a friend who made me try his home cooked meals) and it was delicious!

  2. Gabbar is a famous character for all Bollywood fans. Here in Delhi we have Garam Dharam on actor Dharmendra. Good to see that we have a restaurant on a filmy villain. The interiors look quirky. My husband is a Punjabi, so I know where to take him next time when we are in Dubai.

  3. It sounds like this restaurant is very important to Dubai’s pop culture and is a cultural icon. I haven’t seen the film, but I think it’s very unique that the restaurant used the main character as inspiration for this eatery. I’m so grateful that you sampled paneer! I often find that it’s overlooked by many, but it’s one of my favorite Indian dishes.

  4. The food looks so yummy! What a cool concept, to create a restaurant after a movie. It looks like a lot of detail was put into the idea!!!

  5. That was a lot of food you tried at Gabbar’s Grill. I’m not familiar with the movie Sholay but it’s fun to have a theme in a restaurant. The price for two people is quite reasonable. How great that your readers can enjoy a special through July.

  6. Oh yummy, I’m hungry now – so many amazing dishes here. I especially like the look of the Shabnam curry. Adding this place to my maps for when I’m next in Dubai.

  7. I would love to try Gabbar’s Grill! The stews all look so hearty and perfect on a cold day. I’ll have to check out the movie before I go, too!

    1. Yes you would surely love those Tandoori stews as they are directly cooked in an Indian style authentic oven.

  8. What an awesome concept!! I mean nothing can beat an iconic Bollywood movie and tasty Punjabi food 😀 I will definitely be trying this restaurant on my next trip to Dubai.

    1. Thanks Richa, you would truly enjoy authentic dhaba style food with some funny dialogues of iconic movie – Sholay

  9. Everything looks so yummy! The veggie platter looks amazing, with so many things I haven’t tried before! I will definitely have to add Gabbar’s Grill to my bucketlist! Thanks for the tips!

    1. Thanks Shelby and I am assuring you the taste of veggie platter is awesome as it has all tandoor items

  10. Gosh these dishes look delicious! Plus the restaurant looks fun and inviting. Definitely a win in my books!

  11. Themed restaurants are so much fun because it feels like you’re literally dining in the story. I’m not familiar with Sholay, but I took the liberty of watching a few minutes (thanks for including the video!) I love the vibrant decor of Gabbar’s Grill! A lot of restaurants I’m seeing are leaning more to the sterile, bland look. The yellow walls make me happy!

    1. You are true that a themed restaurant is always great because for sometime you are also playing some role in that story. And really yellow makes me too happy.

  12. Oooh that food looks fantastic. I looove good veggy Indian food, so this looks right up my street. 😀

I am ashamed to admit that I have never seen Sholay, but it looks like a great fun place to eat even if I miss lots of the cultural movie references!

    1. You would truly love the movie Sholay if you love some countryside action and family emotions. And also the veggie food of this place is very delicious

    1. I too got impressed by 5 different breads and that too they are perfectly baked in Indian styled oven called tandoor

  13. Wow this place looks great! I absolutely LOVE themed restaurants. I am not familiar with the movie Sholay, but think i can still enjoy this place. Although, if i come here, I would definitely watch the movie first. The food looks fantastic as well.

    1. Sure dear, even I have included the link of movie below so that you can watch it. But you would truly enjoy the authentic Punjabi flavors

  14. I haven’t been to Gabbar’s Grill although I have been to Dubai before. The shabnam curry looks so good. It’s great that they have complimentary gulabjamun. It’s actually my favorite Indian dessert apart from carrot halwa.

    1. Yes Gulab Jamun and carrot halwa are integral part of Indian dessert and it is great you know it and love it

  15. What a fun dining experience! The food looks so delicious! I will have to rent “Sholay” now and add this restaurant to my list of places to eat in Discover Gardens, Dubai.
